As part of official duties, i was asked to send a short profile. Of course, i did it with utmost care as every other obedient employee does. This tempted me to think a moment on "What does a profile really mean?". i believe it was worth to look at that angle that i never went to explore.
In dictionary.com, one of the meanings for the word profile is "an informal biography or a concisely presented sketch of the life and character of a person". the other meaning is "degree of noticeability; visibility". Officially - the matters related to office - it is better if club both the meanings like "concise presentation of the sketch of official career life of a person in a way to increase the degree of noticeability or visibility".Don't you agree with this?
So, i believe, all of us have at least 3 kinds of profiles viz. Official profile, Social Profile and Personal Profile. you might wonder what i meant by "Personal Profile". it is something that can be painted only in the conscious mind of a person. The personality traits that are unknown to other people; the traits that are known only to oneself. it is something that comes out from the constant interaction of subconscious and conscious minds and finally left in the inner mind of every one that oneself will disseminate with Social and Official profiles time to time. it really has an impact on the personality of the individual.
Proper mix of all profiles helps the companies to market their employees well; helps the individuals to market themselves and so on. "Is my profile good?" - asked to myself. The answer from within was "Wait and See".

Importance of Soft Skills
There is a belief that if one is thorough of the technical know-how of the job, then he/she would be given the job. But, is that really so? How many of you agree with this? More than 75% of the intended group will diasgree with this belief. Because they know it well that soft skills of the candidate carries a lot of weightage.
Soft skills make a person more complete and more presentable. Companies always look for those employees who can mingle with others well and who can work with others in order to attain the company objectives and goals. The one with proper mix of soft skills and hard skills will always be an asset to the organization.

Spiritualism through Materialism
“Life is a voyage through the infinite ocean of time where the scenes are perpetually changing”. One of the beautiful definitions about life is the given quote. Have you ever tried to uncover the truth behind the life? Have you tried to explore the relation between the spiritual life and material life or how to relate the spiritual philosophies with that of material realities? Through this essay, am trying for the same – balancing the life between spiritual and material world.
If we look into the basic principles of every religion, we can see that it all upholds values that are considered basic to groom as a good human being. It conveys the morals by narrating the stories in the best beautiful manner. Epics, in this sense, may be considered as the finest example. In Sanskrit language epics is defined as the expression of the past in the form of advices through stories about different traits of humans. It seems like the present world is little bit skeptic about the value that religion brings to their life. The dialectical nature of this feeling is revealed when we see that we have this feeling when we are into any of the religion. It happens because the people today are more materialistic, the influence of technology in negative fashion, lack of trust, love and patience towards another human being and increase in lust too. People feel that religion and its principles are for those who practice it – like priests or monks.
“More the money, Less the belief and vice versa” – Are we not the slaves of this kind of opportunistic nature towards God? I am not generalizing since it is not the case. But at least, quite a few people are there who belong to this lot. If we do scrutiny of the religious texts – let it be of any religion - we can see that there are a lot of management principles that are very much relevant even in the present day world. But, at least for some, it is difficult to admit the fact because it is related to religion. They wanted to hear the same from either Harvards or MITs or IIMs. “Tell only the truth – but only those that are happy to hear. Tell only good things and those that do not create any kind of over anxiety” – an excerpt from one of the religious texts. If we can practice this in our day to day life, I am sure, the repercussion will be very much visible. This is just the tip of an iceberg. Then imagine the kind of wealth that all religions and their respective spiritual philosophies bring together for the upliftment of the humanity.
If we can blend the spiritual thoughts with that of our materialistic way of life, then we can have the peace of mind that each one of us is looking for. These principles are clearly defined and interpreted in text books. Simultaneously it is not necessary that we need to follow the same in the exact manner prescribed. That is the advantage of principles – we can interpret it in our own way as they did it in texts. Ultimately, need to make sure that we do it for the betterment.
Proper blend of spirituality and materiality increase the confidence level of the individual that in turn increase the productivity of the individual that helps the society or organizations to come out with a quality product or service. In a nutshell, the best practices of tradition and modernity combined in the best possible ratio, the society who owns such individual – the organization who possesses such individuals – will come up the ladder as an epitome of excellence that everyone else would like to emulate.
Be an individual that others would love to emulate.

Software Quality - A Prelude
Quantum of interrelated activities that produce Unbelievable, Able, Learnable, Infallible and Traceable Yield(QUALITY). Yes, QUALITY is the result of a number of interrelated activities (processes) that produce a product (Software) which is unbelievable in it’s outcome, able to perform what it is supposed to perform, perfect while performing and traceable to the requirements.
None of the readers may not disagree with me with respect to the above description of quality. We all want to produce the best product that ever produced in the world. Very categorically I can say that. But the bottleneck comes in the form of processes for the developers who, most of the times, look at processes as a villain that comes in the way of development and take away much of their precious development time! I cannot include those who are a part of companies that have accomplished higher level of Quality that would not be achieved had those organizations not received the right kind of support from the programming fraternity.
Quality is a systematic approach of developing software that touches all phases of development starting from the Proposal level to post-implementation. Whenever and wherever one is going systematic, we can see that all his/her activities are properly backed by perfect documentation that is going to act as a torch light in future for the generations ahead. We are moving through the Object Oriented Programming age and that’s why I took the analogy from the real life. In software too, in a process-oriented environment, the development is backed by well-maintained documents.
It is believed that if the quality of the processes that are implemented in the development of the product is good, quality of the product is also good. Naturally, all Top Management will try to implement the best of the standards and processes. As a corollary the search will end up in either CMMI or ISO or Six Sigma or any of the established standards. These standards represent and reflect the IT industry’s quest for globally accepted standards. These standards consider even minute factors that affect the software development. Fruhauf rightly pointed out “ Quality is when the customer comes back, not with the product”. To achieve that kind of Quality we need to follow some well-established standards till we reach a position to create our own path in terms Quality. It is the developers who play vital roles in implementation of Quality standards.
Our approach towards Quality depends mainly upon the attitude that we are having. We must be in a position to direct our views and thoughts towards Quality to achieve the same. When each one of us marry the processes and standards as our guide in pursuit of our travel to deliver the best product in at most minimum time, then, at the very same point of time, we start loving the processes and with that we can find new dimensions in customer centric activities, to what our quality policy evolves around.
It is high time for all software professionals to think highly on software quality and quality procedures since we are aiming to climb high and higher steps of success ladder in terms of Quality. If any of us is having a negative attitude towards processes and procedures, I humbly request them to clear the dark clouds away from your mind so that all of us can jointly herald the new dawn with a brighter sun – QUALITY. Change the attitude and convert the same to have enriched processes that are emerged from the pragmatic approaches that we are having. Remember the old proverb “ Change is the only thing that is permanent”. Yes, we can do that. Ultimately Quality is the sum of a joint effort put by all the employees in an organization. Emphatically I can say that Quality is present only when the employees start think, talk and work as a cohesive group where no one can endanger the unity of the employees from top to bottom.
